FDM (FUSED DEPOSITION MODELING)

33 fdm dimension elite stratasys

FDM is equivalent to FFF, acronym for “Fused Filament Fabrication”. Thanks to this technology, which was invented by Scott Trump, founder of Stratasys ®, a plastic filament passes through an extruder that, brought to high temperature, makes the material fluid; this is then “deposited” on the print plate according to a pattern of lines which constitute the layers which are superimposed on the preceding ones.

With this technique we can produce objects with accurate precision and with any geometry as we use soluble support structures. On the surface of the object the layers of material are visible but may be partially or totally removed with manual finishing.

This technology is improperly considered economic as it is used by most desktop 3D printers. Actually  professional and expensive 3d printers use this technology with several performing materials (ABS, Nylon, Polycarbonate, Ultem, etc) and huge printing volumes.
